About The County of Nottinghamshire - Nottinghamshire has an approximate admin population of 763,000 and total area population of 1,042,000 (2005). Nottinghamshire abbreviated Notts is a county in the East Midlands bordering South Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. The county town is traditionally Nottingham although the council is now based in West Bridgford, to people of Nottingham this is Nottingham anyway. The districts of Nottinghamshire are Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe. The City of Nottingham was administratively part of Nottinghamshire between 1974 and 1998 but is now a unitary authority.
