About The County of Northumberland - Northumberland has an approximate population of 315,000 (2005). Northumberland is a county in the North East of England. Northumberland borders Cumbria to the west, County Durham to the south and Tyne and Wear to the south east, as well as having a border with the Scottish Borders council area to the north, and nearly eighty miles of North Sea coastline.

The North East is made up of Cleveland, County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear with the county of Cleveland divided into 4 unitary authorities covering the borough councils of Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlespool, Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees. North Yorkshire is located to the south of the county with County Durham to the north. The rest of Cleveland's border looks out into the north sea.
