2. Benbecula Airport lies between North Uist and South Uist in the Western Isles. The airport, located on the west coast of the island, provides important support services to the QinetiQ Hebrides Ranges. An Air Traffic Control Service is provided for all operations except on call ambulance flights, which are supported by a Flight Information Service. Brisitsh Airways and Highland Airways services.

3. Campbeltown Airport RAF Machrihanish hosted UK military and NATO base operations until 1997. The airport runway, at 3,049 metres, is one of the longest in Europe. Aircraft operations are supported by a Flight Information Service. Campbeltown itself is situated three miles to the east of the airport and can be easily accessed with a taxi or hire car. Attractions in Campbeltown include the famous Springbank distillery company, the heritage centre which shows the history of the town, and Davaar Island which boasts the famous cave painting of the crucifixion of Christ. 4. Inverness Airport is the air gateway for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and handles more than 330 scheduled flights a week to Scottish and UK destinations. It is the largest of 10 airports serving the region operated by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited. Scheduled flights operate between Inverness and London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin (from 10 April 2006), Leeds Bradford (from 24 April 2006), Liverpool (from 3 October 2006), Manchester, Newcastle (from 5 June 2006), Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stornoway in the Western Isles, Kirkwall in Orkney and Sumburgh in Shetland. Ryanair start to operate flights to/from Inverness in 2006. The airport is located 9 miles east of the City of Inverness just off the main A96 trunk road

5. Islay Airport is situated on the beautiful Island of Islay on the south West Coast of Scotland just slightly north of the Northern Irish coast. Islay is known in Scotland as the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’ and this is for very some very good and unique reasons. The island is a gem of an island with plenty of spectacular scenery including golden beaches (one seven miles long situated at the airport) and sea views as well as lush green fields and heather covered hills. The island is lapped on its West Coast by the Atlantic Ocean and warm Gulf Stream, which gives it a surprisingly mild climate. Serviced by Loganair.

6. Kirkwall Airport Apart from scheduled services to the Scottish mainland and to Shetland, Kirkwall Airport is the base for the original inter-island services introduced and continuously operated by Loganair. We also support daily Royal Mail and newspaper flights. Other airport users include the Fisheries Protection aircraft, various charters and the Northern Lighthouse Board helicopter. Services to island airstrips include the Westray to Papa Westray route which, with a flying time of less than two minutes, is the shortest scheduled air service in the world. 7. Stornoway Airport provides a key access point to Lewis and the Western Isles, with flights from Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and inter-island services to Benbecula and Barra. Located on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis, a few miles from Stornoway, the airport also serves as a base for the search and rescue helicopter operated by HM Coastguard. Air traffic control at Stornoway provides important support services to aircraft flying to and from North America over Iceland. 8. Sumburgh Airport is located at the southern tip of the Shetland Islands and is made easily accessible through regular flights to/from main connecting Scottish cities. 9. Tiree Airport is located on the south east coast of the island, which regularly records the highest annual levels of sunshine in the UK.
