Aberdeenshire is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland. Aberdeenshire borders Angus, Perth and Kinross to the south, Highland and Moray to the west.
Aberdeenshire does not include Aberdeen City which has its own council. Aberdeenshire is the only Scottish council whose headquarters are based outside its area's border, there actually located in The City of Aberdeen. Aberdeenshire Council was established in April 1996, following the abolition of the Scottish Regions.
